Frequently asked questions.
Is counseling covered by Alberta Health Care?
Currently counseling services are not covered by Alberta Health Care coverage, however many extended health benefit plans do provide coverage. You can check with your insurance provider for details.
What is your fee structure?
Individuals sessions are 50 minutes in length and $200 per 50 minutes session. Sliding scale options may be available for those facing financial barriers, if you would like to inquire please fill in my contact form and we can talk more about this.
What happens in the free consultation?
During our consultation, this is a chance for you to share a bit about what you are seeking support with and ask any questions that you may have. It’s important that you feel that you match with your therapist, and this is a chance for you to see if I am a fit for what you would like help with.
What happens in our first session?
Typically the first 1-3 sessions we will work together to explore your current challenges and your history to get a good view of everything that is active in your problem. We call this the “assessment” phase, and rather than just me as the counselor assessing your challenges, we will actually assess them together. You can likely expect more questions at this step of the process as we explore what is going on, but it is your right to decline to answer questions if you aren’t comfortable sharing right away. I recognize that at this point we have just met and it takes time to build trust in any relationship, professional or otherwise.
